The Falls Festival 2006

The Falls Festival 2006 seemed to be the most anticipated Falls Festival in its long history and 2006 had it all. Great weather again although mental note to re-set the timer in Lorne so that the rain comes on Jan 2 not Jan 1); Great people - really, you guys were super fun to have over and are more than welcome to come back next time;Great music - where do we start! Modest Mouse land high in the charts as unbelievably great performers that well and truly lived up to the hype leaving us very proud to have hosted their Australian debut. We give A+ to The Bees for gutsy performances in the face of severe laryngitis - seriously, the man couldn't talk so to hear him sing for us was quite extraordinary.

They had a blast nonetheless and we reckon they'll be back.Wolfmother and Michael Franti & Spearhead*were sensational and proved to be the perfect choices the farewell 2006 and welcome 2007, The John Butler Trio and Hilltop Hoods left no-one doubting their place as two of Australia's finest. You Am I were simply on fire and delivered their most memorable performances EVER at The Falls Festival. The internationals each offered something unique and amazing - from the one man phenomena that is Jamie Lidell to the politically charged Saul Williams. In Lorne, Basement Jaxx pumped more energy and costume changes than could be measured by any means. Not to be outshone were the locals. Whether it be the crescendo to a huge year for bands like Eskimo Joe, Josh Pyke or Blue King Brown or the signalling of big things to come from The Scientists of Modern Music, The Vasco Era, Labjacd, The Exploders and... well, too many more to mention! Suffice to say we thought they were super and we hope we satisfied your cravings as well as expanded your palette with a kaleidoscope of new flavours.
