National Celtic Festival.

The sound of bagpipes resonated around Portarlington last night at the launch of the National Celtic Festival.

Guests were treated to a taste of everything Scottish, with Mayor Bruce Harwood taking part in the presentation of the haggis.

The event was held at the Ol'Duke in Portarlington.

Held over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, June 6 to 9, the National Celtic Festival is Australia's largest celebration of Celtic music and culture. It includes live music, dancing and food and craft stalls.

This year's festival will include three international acts including music from Brazen, Gaelic Storm and Scottish legends Battlefield Band. "It's said so often, but it is really true, the line-up this year is better than it has ever been," organiser Una McLinden said.
"We've got a bit of everything in this international mix."

Ms McLinden said she was blown away by the number of teenage bands around Australia who had applied to play.

Early bird tickets for the National Celtic Festival are on sale now at www.gpac.org.au or phone GPAC on (03) 5225 1200.
